Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and two (2) District Fire Chiefs are charged with tactical operation of the department. Each station is operated by a Senior Captain, Captain and Lieutenant.
The department operates 7 stations within the district each with a first out engine and specialized support apparatus. In general the department operates:
- 9 Fire Engines
- 3 Aerial Apparatus
- 2 Heavy Rescue Trucks
- 2 Tanker Trucks
- 2 Grass/Brush Trucks
- 1 Special Services Support Truck
- 1 Command/Rehab Truck
- Various miscellaneous support vehicles
In 2014 the department responded to 2173 calls for service in its primary response categories (fire suppression, rescue, and medical assistance) with call volume increasing every year. Emergency Medical Service is provided by Cypress Creek EMS under contract with HCESD 11 which overlays HCESD 16. Although KVFD provides assistance to CCEMS for medical emergencies, state law prohibits two ESDs from providing the same primary service.
The department also has a full-time Public Fire Educator who coordinates our fire education programs. This is a key part of fire prevention program with its value demonstrated by the decrease in property loss for the past 6 years while the county as a whole has increased.
